Orbiting Jupiter

The theme that I think the book ” Orbiting Jupiter ” possess is love. Why I think this is because throughout the book it shows feelings, feelings of love. An example of love is at the moment of Jack realizing that Joseph being on the ice was a bad idea because of the story of the yellow dog. The yellow dog was on the ice too. Many years ago, but then the ice started breaking. The dog could not take it anymore. The yellow dog died and Jack did not want Joseph to die like the yellow dog. So he saved him. That is a true deed of love. Also the moment that Joseph had met Rosie. Rosie had instantly found Joseph the best person she had ever met. She loved it when he rubbed her rump. Rosie loved Joseph for who he was. That is love. One last way that this book shows love was in the last part of the book, when Joseph runs away to find Jupiter far away from his home in the snow. He was being looked for by everyone, but he stayed low and found her home. If that is not love I don’t know what is. The theme that this book possesses is love.

Another class project.

This was in the first place a test on our 6th grade writing skills but I thought I would show it to you. The topic of this test was : Should people in the US stop buying chocolate made from cocoa beans grown in West Africa? I know I have already posted a essay about this subject and around this subject but if you don’t want to read my big essay read this short paragraph instead. This is a short paragraph to us in room 30. You might think it is a big paragraph but still take a little time and enjoy it. Here you go:

U.S.A citizens you need for this reason to stop buying chocolate. Slaves are still a thing and are used in the production of chocolate.  I know some people go meh or I don’t care I just want eat chocolate, but according to Debora Dunn ” Many people don’t know that children in West Africa pick most of the world’s cocoa beans, which is the main ingredient in chocolate.”. How would you feel is you were one of these children, because I would feel so badly treated just so other people can have chocolate to earn money or to devour without a concern of how they made this product so good. Imagine a bunch of kids 5 threw 12 years of age were working in horrid heat chopping and busting open these huge plants for no money at all. In fact according to Debora Dunn ” Kids health is at risk because they use sharp machetes to harvest the cocoa pods, which are sprayed with poisonous pesticides.”. I would not even go near those if I had a choice, but these kids don’t have a choice to do any of this. So will you please do these kids a favor buy fair trade chocolate.

Chocolate and slavery essay

Is chocolate a part of your everyday lifestyle? A melt in your mouth,  creamy treat  to have on any day. Ether M&M’s,  or a Hershey’s bar. Have you ever wondered what ingredients or how they make it. One word Slavery.Everyone might have thought that slavery was done for when they made a claim to make it illegal to have slaves. But what really happened was the slave rate died down. Slavery is still being used in cacao plantations today for the production of chocolate.

People have been taken from their homes without a hope of going home. According to William A. Cadbury’s  letter ” The large majority of Angola natives who are taken to S. Thomé are brought to the coast and shipped to the islands against their will, and therefore when they allow themselves to be contracted, it is under the force of circumstances and not a voluntary act.”. They are hopeless. No one may return from being taken. It needs to be stopped.

Not only are people being taken from their homes, they live in horrible living conditions. According to William A. Cadbury’s letter” “Doctors state that most of the mortality is from two diseases—anemia and dysentery; complaints that are easily developed by people in a depressed mental condition. It is also admitted that the highest death-rate is among the newly arrived laborers, and this is exactly what one would expect when we know that these people are forcibly taken from their homes for work across the sea, without any hope of return.”. This can affect the human race. People are dying.  They need to be stopped. People are not okay.

But what are their ages? Kids as little as four are slaves to. Not only adults.According to Deborah Dunn “Most Americans eat about twelve pounds of it each year! But many people don’t know that children in West Africa pick most of the world’s cocoa beans, which is the main ingredient in chocolate. Cocoa beans from the Ivory Coast make about half of the chocolate eaten in America in one year. Child labor is becoming of increasing concern to people who buy chocolate. Slavery has been going on for years with chocolate, but why?

Who are they? Why are they doing this? Big companies like Hersheys, M&M, and Mars, and all for the money.  According to the website, www.foodispower.org  “Western African countries, mostly Ghana and the Ivory Coast, supply more than 70% of the world’s cocoa. The cocoa they grow and harvest is sold to a majority of chocolate companies, including the largest in the world. As the chocolate industry has grown over the years, so has the demand for cheap cocoa.”. They only pay as little as a penny for pounds, and pounds of cacao beans (cocoa) to sell it  for lots of money. This is insanity. Children don’t go to school to work in their families farms so they can afford their houses.

Slaves are one thing that is still going on that is a threat to the human race. So next time you buy chocolate,  the slaves a favor, buy fair trade labeled chocolate. Fair trade is a program where you have to pay a fair amount of money for their product. It might be a bit more expensive, but it will help.

100 word challenge – FLAME

On July 4th , there was rushing people in our house, and the smell of baking throughout. We were so excited and still a big rush. My mom and dad almost blushed. All on time. We all love to celebrate our holiday of red, white, and blue. Cold, freezing water to go swimming in and the flame of the fire to. We all had know tomorrow our stomachs would hurt, but we didn’t care even with our little baby in our hair. Out the door we went getting in the car. We didn’t even care that the door wasn’t shut.

This was the first 100 word challenge that I had done. Hope you like it.

100 word challenge – Mad monkey

Bob started out the day really happy, But at 12:02 it all got real. Today bob has a meeting on his Banana company called bob’s mad bananas. So when he walked into the logo store he was thrilled because it looked so professional but when they handed him the computer and he went nuts. “ Why would they do this to me, putting my butt on the logo! How could they?” Bob thought in his head. Then he pushed the computer off the table in regret. After that he stormed off furiously and never went back to that store again.

Favorite Memory

One of my favorite challenger memories is when we did our worst presentations ever. We were split into groups. Then we picked topics. After that we were given the go and we went crazy. The rules were to do the exact opposite of what you would do on a bullet point presentations. Lots of bullet points, every word on the slide, etc. We had a lot of fun.
